This browser-based MIDI drum performer lets you build, edit, perform and record step-based MIDI patterns.
Basic workflow
Choose a MIDI output.
Edit your drum map for your chosen midi device. This version is locked to ch10.
Edit the pattern grid and use the Pattern Edit Toolbox for larger changes.
Use mute, solo and pattern switching for performance.
Add/remove hits on the fly in grid mode.
Experiment with shorter pattern lengths.
Use synchronised pattern jumps to beats 1,2,3,4.
Set patterns to return to the 1 every 4,8,or 16 beats to pull things back in sync.
Record a performance and export it as a MIDI file.
Tempo changes are synchronised to bar starts and are included in generated midi files.
The edit toolbox has more functions to create nuance and interest.
You can apply a velocity groove to the entire pattern, or each drum lane. Try it out. You can always turn it off.
Add tuplets of 2-9 evenly-spaced hits over 1-8 steps, with per-hit velocity modifiers and Every/Odd/Even/Every X bars occurrence. A tuplet blocks its lane while it plays; a newer tuplet can take over.

Midi output device, your drum mapping, your tempo, your resync setting, are stored in local storage between sessions.
Shortcut keys
Space starts / stops - playback / recording.
` switches between grid mode and toolbox mode.
In grid mode, cursor keys move around the grid and Enter toggles the selected cell.
In grid mode, - clears the selected drum lane and = fills the selected drum lane.
Delete clears the current pattern.
Backspace undoes/redoes the last toolbox-style edit, including Delete clears.
P randomises the current pattern.
O randomises the selected drum lane.
L applies a musical random velocity groove to the selected drum lane.
; removes the velocity groove from the selected drum lane.
, / . select the previous / next sample for the selected cell when that sampler lane is in Manual control mode.
[ / ] decrease / increase the focused hit velocity. Values wrap between 1 and 127.
/ locks/unlocks the selected lane so it keeps playing across pattern changes.
In toolbox mode, cursor keys move between toolbox buttons and Enter activates the highlighted button.
1-7 toggle lane mutes.
Q-U toggle lans solos.
Esc clears mutes and solos.
A-K instant switch patterns.
Z, X, C, Vqueue pattern jumps to beats 1,2,3,4. Turn off pattern resync to let your queues play out.
Esc closes this window.
If there is interest, i might make a pro version with configurable midi channels and more drum lanes. So you can sequence synths as well. Possibly with a Gate Groove that works like Velocity Groove. Possibly live transpose from midi in.
When internal mode is on, drop WAV files or folders onto the lanes below. Up to 64 WAVs per lane are used. Manual control lets , and . choose the sample per grid cell.
Kits include the WAV data, so files can be large.

Edits affect the currently selected pattern only. Before destructive edits, the previous pattern is copied into the paste/undo buffer.
